A ROGUE traders alert is being flashed around Newton Abbot after two men were reported doorstepping for roof work in a suspicious manner.

The pair were said to be ‘mildly aggressive’ towards an elderly man they were pestering for a large sum of money to carry out unrequired roofing repairs.

The same duo, who struck in the town on Wednesday, had earlier used similar tactics on a female neighbour.

They left the scene after being asked for their business card and ID.

Police, who are urging people in the town to be on their guard against the cold callers, have issued descriptions of the twosome.

One was aged 40-50, stockily built and about 5ft 8ins tall. He had dark hair in a small ponytail. It’s thought he may have sported a bandage on his right hand.

The second man was about 30-40, of medium build and about the same height as his partner. He had very short black hair.

A police spokesman said: ‘We urge the community to be vigilant regarding cold callers and rogue traders.

‘If you have elderly neighbours or family please speak to them and warn them of this type of scam.

‘Advise them not to let strangers into their property.’
