DON’T be surprised if you see the shocking aftermath of a car crash by Newton Abbot’s clock tower over the next two days (Monday and Tuesday) - it will be there as a sobering way of raising awareness of the dangers of drink/drug driving.
Part of Newton Abbot Fire Station’s road safety team, along with colleagues from the police, will be with the remains of a wrecked car between 10am and 4pm on December 21 and 22.
The crash car is a real car from a real incident. It was involved in a road traffic collision which resulted in the fatality of the 21-year-old male driver and caused life changing injuries for all four passengers inthe vehicle. Although the driver was under the drink drive limit, he did test positive for both cocaine and ketamine.
The team will be looking to engage with the public and asking for people’s thoughts and experiences as drivers within the local area, whilst also aiming to raise awareness to the dangers of drink/drug driving which unfortunately increases at Christmas time.
