A TEENAGE student was the victim of a ‘serious unprovoked attack’ at Newton Abbot College yesterday.

The 16-year-old victim was assaulted by two males, aged 16-18, as he walked between classes in the car park of the college in Old Exeter Road.

He was punched and kicked in the face and sustained a serious eye injury. The lad, who has not been named, was taken to hospital for treatment but has since returned home.

Police pursuing the offenders say the thugs struck some time between 10.50am and 11am.

They were both seen to walk away from the scene to collect a black mountain bike from near the bus station before heading into the town centre.

A spokesman said officers were keen to trace the duo and anyone who saw the incident, which they confirmed was unprovoked.

One of the attackers was wearing a khaki thigh-length hooded coat, blue jeans and a black baseball cap.

He was wearing black footwear and carrying a black bag around his neck.

His partner in crime had short dark hair and was sporting a grey hooded top and grey/green knee-length shorts. He was also wearing black footwear.

The spokesman said: ‘We are keen to speak to any witnesses to the assault – or anybody who believes they know the identity of these two offenders.’

Callers should ring police on 101 and quote crime CR/088405/17.

College Principal Paul Cornish said: ‘The safety of our students is of paramount importance to us.  I am in daily communication with the victim and his family and wish him a speedy recovery from his injuries.’

He added: ‘The police and college are currently of the view that this is an isolated incident and there is no need for unnecessary alarm.

‘The college is supporting the police with their investigations and any further comment at this stage would be prejudicial.’
