OVER 70 firefighters from across Devon, including crews from Bovey Tracey and Chagford, have been tackling a large commercial building fire at the Crediton Milling Company.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the blaze at the premises just before 9.30pm on Friday night.

Initially a crew from Crediton plus two from Danes Castle attended, along with an aerial ladder platform from Exeter.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said: ‘On arrival the first crews confirmed that smoke and flames were issuing from a building measuring approximately 30 metres by 25 metres by 18 metres high and requested five additional fire engines, with the building and roof well alight.

‘Just before 10pm the fire officer in charge requested the attendance of another four fire engines and a second aerial ladder platform as the fire had started to spread to the remainder of the building.’

The Crediton Milling Company produces agricultural feed products, which are distributed throughout the South West.After tackling the fire overnight two crews and an aerial ladder platform remained in attendance on Saturday damping down hot spots they will remain in attendance until fire investigation has been carried.
