POLICE raced to Teignmouth Community College amid fears two teenage girls had been abducted yesterday afternoon.

A rush of resources to the scene in Exeter Road at 4pm provoked local speculation about youngsters missing.

But ground, road and air searches drew a blank with the realisation that no such incident had happened.

A police spokesman said the call to the emergency services was now being treated as a false alarm with good intent.

‘There were no missing persons matching age, description and location of the two girls as reported,’ the spokesman confirmed today (thurs).

The spokesman added: ‘We would very much like to thank school staff at Teignmouth Community College for their excellent assistance during the incident.’

Police later carried out patrols to reassure locals and allay any panic created by the emergency that wasn’t.
