A 58-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist from Teignmouth died after his machine crashed off road as he made his way back to the resort on Wednesday night.
He lost control of his black Harley Davidson Wide Glide on the A379 coast road before it smashed in to roadside furniture just before 9pm.
Police, who are appealing for witnesses, say no other vehicles were involved in the fatal accident.
The rider, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services who rushed to the location after the alarm was raised at 8.50pm.
Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police’s Alliance Roads Policing Team attended along with a forensic collision investigator and scenes-of-crime officer.
A police spokesman said today (June 27): ‘A full investigation of the scene took place and officers are working to establish the cause of this collision.’
They are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision - or who may have seen the motorcyclist travelling towards Teignmouth before the incident - to contact them via [email protected] or by phone on 101, quoting log number 0894 of June 26.
The coroner has been informed.
An inquest is expected to open within the next few days to take formal evidence of identification.
