A painting by a Teignmouth artist is gaining the attention of thousands of Londoners this week as it features on a billboard in the city’s Kings Cross area.

Angela Rimmer ‘s ‘Golden Hour II’ was selected from more than 600 works to be part of the ‘Art on the Street’ initiative, which aims to make contemporary art more accessible to the public.

The scheme by artist community Creative Flair and art magazine Fetch London sees the work of 15 artists plastered across 28 billboards and bus stops around central London.

The campaign launched on December 8 and runs until December 15 and the organisers hope ‘Art on the Streets’ will make contemporary art visible to a wider public, beyond traditional gallery spaces, and spotlight early career and emerging artists.

‘This project has been about one thing; celebrating real artists, real stories, and real creativity out in the world, where everyone can see it,’ said a spokesperson from Creative Flair.

Angela, who worked as a corporate marketing consultant for 25 years, had dabbled in art for fun throughout her life, but she only picked up a paintbrush seriously a couple of years ago after attending a networking event where participants were encouraged to visualise their best future.

Since then, Angela’s confidence as an artist has grown and her talent has shone through. She has exhibited across Exeter and South Devon, held her first solo exhibition at Teignmouth Pavilions, and been featured in regional lifestyle magazines.

She is inspired by the mystery and energy of the ocean and the natural world and the way light and colour influence our emotions. Not content with sticking to paint, it’s not unusual for Angela to explore coffee and ink as media in her work and to interchange spatulas and rollers with brushes to achieve the desired texture and depth to her work.
