A THIRD man has been detained in connection with a murder inquiry in Teignmouth.
Detectives probing the weekend death at Barnpark Terrace have confirmed that the man, in his late 30s, has joined two others - aged 51 and 52 - in custody.
The dead man, aged 38 and from Exeter, was discovered outside flats in the resort on Sunday morning.
A police spokesman confirmed: ‘The presentation of the scene was such that the man’s death was regarded as suspicious.’
The crime scene was cordoned off as officers from the force’s Major Crime Investigation Team examined the area.
The spokesman said two Teignmouth men had been arrested on suspicion of murder followed by a third, also from the town, aged 39.
Formal identification of the dead man has been carried out – and next of kin have been informed. His name is expected to be released later today (wed).
The outcome of police quizzing of the detained trio is also expected to be announced today.
Local residents reported seeing a man lying in the road in front a car opposite a block of flats.
The South Devon coroner has been informed of the tragedy. An inquest is expected to open shortly to take formal evidence of identity.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the ‘unexplained death’ to contact them via [email protected] or by phone on 101, quoting log number 267 of June 3.
Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org
