NEW fencing has been installed on Dawlish sea wall while repairs to storm damage continue.

Signage indicating the footpath was closed had been in place but there appear to have been incidents where the signs were ignored.

Now fencing has been erected to prevent the path being used while essential repairs continue.

A spokesman for the South West Rail Resilience Programme explained: ‘This is a reminder that the footpath between the end of the new sea wall at Coastguard’s and Buddy’s cafe at Red Rock is currently closed while we repair recent storm damage.

'We’ve put up some new fencing to keep everyone safe while we work, so please don’t attempt to access the path along the old sea wall here.

‘The repairs are set to take a number of weeks as we need to work around the tides and any weather challenges.

‘Thanks for bearing with us.’

At the Teignmouth end, Sprey Point is due to be closed until Monday March 2 morning while contractors wait for concrete to set as part of repairs to the void caused by storm.

The main footpath alongside remains open.

The damage was caused by two consecutive storms earlier this month.
