POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a young man from Kingskerswell was badly injured in collision with a car on the new South Devon Highway.
The 24-year-old casualty was crossing the road towards the central reservation when he was in collision with a white Peugeot van heading towards Torquay.
The casualty, who has not been named, was rushed by land ambulance to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital after the accident in Kingskerswell just before 4am on Saturday.
On Monday police described his condition as stable. His injuries were not life-threatening.
He suffered head injuries in the collision and was reported to be slipping in and out of consciousness at the scene.
The road was closed for nearly nine hours while accident investigators examined the location, one kilometre south of Penn Inn on the Torquay-bound carriageway.
The van driver from Dawlish was not hurt.
No arrests were made in the wake of the accident.
But police are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen the collision.
They should contact officers on 101, quoting log 176 of July 30.
