POLICE were called at 9.40pm to Holne Bridge, Ashburton, on Sunday following reports of a serious collision involving two vehicles.

Police, Fire and ambulance crews attended the scene where two people were reported to have sustained injuries.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornewall Police said: ‘The male driver of one vehicle sustained a chest injury and was taken to Derriford hospital where he is described as being in a serious but stable condition. 

‘The female driver of the other vehicle was extracted from her vehicle by the Fire service. She was taken to Derriford hospital with multiple injuries. Her condition is also described as serious but stable.

‘Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 803 of 7 

Fire crews from Ashburton and Buckfastleigh rescued the person trapped in their vehicle at Holne Bridge.

A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service reports: ‘One fire engine from Ashburton and one from Buckfastleigh were sent to the location,’ said the spokesperson.

‘On arrival, crews confirmed this to be a two vehicle collision with one person medically trapped in one of the vehicles.

‘Crews got to work with hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof from the vehicle and assisted in rendering first aid to the casualty, alongside the helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) and paramedics.

‘The casualty was safely removed from the vehicle and handed over to paramedics. A second casualty was involved but self rescued from their vehicle.

‘The injured person was taken to hospital by ambulance.

‘Duty of care of the incident was left with the police.’
