A VAN was damaged after a hedge row caught fire at a house in Newton Abbot this afternoon.

Firefighters from Torquay responded to the 999 emergency in Aller Park Road just after midday.

Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the ‘well alight’ hedge, which caused heat damage to a van and the property’s fascias.

A spokesman for the fire service revealed the blaze is thought to have started accidentally.
