IRRESPONSIBLE barbecue users could have sparked a massive fire Teignmouth’s Firefighters have warned.

The firefighters appealed to people to be responsible with barbecues after another callout to deal with a fire caused by one.

They took to Facebook last night, Friday, to say: ‘We had another call in the early hours to a fire cause by a barbecue.

‘Even long after use charcoal barbecue can still remain extremely hot and produce dangerous gases.

‘Please consider the location of your barbecue and have a source of water close to hand just in case.’

On Thursday they posted: ‘At 9,30am today we were called for a barbecue left unattended up Little Haldon.

‘This could have lead to a massive fire if we hadn’t been fortunate enough to have able to dealt with it before it got out of control.’

A Teignmouth Firefighter posted: ‘The risk of wildfires is high at the moment.

You can help prevent wildfires by:

taking a picnic instead of having a BBQ or a campfire

taking your litter home with you. Glass bottles caught under bright sunlight can start a fire which can spread quickly.
