A 14-YEAR OLD boy has been questioned over an alleged serious sex attack on a girl a year older than him at a park in Newton Abbot.
Details of the assault, which is said to have happened in Courtenay Park more than two weeks ago, were only released by police today (July 15).
A spokesman at force headquarters said the incident reportedly took place near the public toilets in the park between 2-3pm on June 28, a Friday.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is currently being supported by specially trained officers with experience of handling such sensitive matters.
Police confirmed the girl’s alleged attacker had been arrested in connection with the incident and later released on bail.
Investigating officer, Det Con Will Young, said: ‘We are continuing to investigate reports of a serious sexual assault in Newton Abbot two weeks ago.
‘Our inquires remain ongoing - but we are also seeking information from the public, specifically from anyone who may have seen two young persons in the area of the covered bench.’
He added: ‘We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Courtenay Park between 2pm and 3pm on June 28 and saw anything suspicious.
‘We’d also like to hear from anyone with any relevant information.
