A WOMAN was overcome by smoke after a chip pan fire in Newton Abbot.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the 999 call on Saturday night in Mapleton Close.

The woman, in her 60s, was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation - but she did not need to go to hospital.

The alarm was raised just after 8.30pm.

A fan was used to vent the property.

A fire spokesman confirmed that the source of the accidental blaze was a chip pan.
