SIMON DeVey of the Anderton and Rowland funfair, was one of the judges of the pasty competition at Newton Abbot's annual Cheese and Onion Fair, on Wednesday.

Not only did he judge but he also forked out £45 at an auction in the Market Square for a cheese and onion pasty and a meat pasty.

There were ten entries in a tastiest pasty competition and they were also sold off with all the proceeds going into the mayor Cllr Carol Bunday's chosen charity – The Memory Cafe at The Tower Unit of Newton Abbot Hospital.

Several town councillors, who marched through the town into the Market Square from the town hall, dressed in period costume along with some stallholders.
