THERE was a right royal ceremony in Newton Abbot when the town’s new carnival queen was crowned.
Outgoing queen Tegan Berry passed the title and tiara on to Frankie Jones at the event outside the town’s Clock Tower on Saturday.
The crowning took place as the town prepares for a jam-packed week of carnival events.
Kicking things off on Sunday, July 2, will be the Totnes Town Band, who are performing in Courtenay Park from 2.30pm.
The brainy members of the family will be in their element when the town’s Wetherspoons holds a quiz night from 7pm on Monday.
A poohsticks river race is taking place from Highweek Way at 5.30pm on Tuesday evening before the Recreational Trust plays host to an evening of children’s games from 6pm.
Steppes Meadow – near Bakers Park – will be the starting point of this year’s Duck Race from 5.30pm on Wednesday and the popular tractor pull will be taking place outside the town’s Clock Tower from 6.30pm.
A tea dance is being held at Danceworks Devon in East Street from 2pm on Thursday before it is eyes down at the Recreational Trust for a session of bingo at 8pm.
Decoy Park will be home to a charity fun run from 6pm on Friday before the highly-anticipated carnival procession marches up through the town on Saturday.
Courtenay Park will become a hive of activity on procession day with fairground rides, live music, pony rides and dancing taking place from 1pm.
The procession is set to leave the park at 6.30pm and parade up through the town.
