CRIME in Newton Abbot has risen just a fraction in the last year, the town’s senior officer has revealed.

Insp Adrian Woon told town councillors that just 42 more crime matters have been reported

in the last 12 months.

• Burglary dwellings had increased by six per cent with break-ins at non-dwellings - such as sheds and garages - jumping at the same rate.

• Vehicle crime rose by 22 per cent while criminal damage increased by nine per cent.

• Violence with injury had gone down by three per cent, although violence without injury went up by eight per cent.

Insp Woon also outlined the impact of notable events in and around the town which affected local resources, including the recent counter-terrorism incident in Tudor Road, the extensive terrorism-linked searches in Exminster and the major fire in Exeter city centre.
