OFFICERS from Teignbridge Council are dealing with a group of travellers who moved onto their own land at the council’s headquarters.

A number of vans, caravans and cars arrived at the car park at the authority’s building at Forde House in Newton Abbot on Saturday.

Staff and officers from Devon and Cornwall Police have attended the site over the weekend.

The council says it will be ‘following the relevant legal processes’ to remove the unauthorised encampment.

Anyone needing to attend the council offices will have to find alternative transport as the car park will not be available.

A spokesman said: ‘Due to an unauthorised encampment of caravans and other vehicles in Forde House car park, which arrived on Saturday, parking at the site will be severely limited this week.

'Our reception will be open as usual for anyone who has an appointment with one of our services.

‘We would advise anyone attending to travel by public transport, walk or cycle where possible, or to park at one of our car parks in the town and walk to Forde House.

‘Limited parking will be available for those with

mobility issues.

‘We will keep residents updated as the situation changes.’
