ROSE Patterson's dream of flying in a helicopter has finally come true – on her 101st birthday. The former teacher from Teignmouth was all booked and ready to go last year on her 100th birthday, but was badly let down by a local company. Last Wednesday Rose, who lives at Glenkeally Residential Home, flew to the Isles of Scilly from Penzance with family members. When the party of 14 arrived at Penzance Heliport they found that one helicopter was out of service. But delays and bad weather did not dent her enjoyment. 'She loved it, even though we had two hours delay each side,' said nephew David Patterson. 'She chatted to the family, drinking tea. When we got her home it was well after midnight.' On arrival at St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly, she watched the Scillonian set sail before the party adjourned to a nearby hotel. Once back in Blighty, the family dined out in Marazion and Rose was toasted with champagne.
