SOME 150 ales and ciders will be slaking thousands of thirsts later this month as the annual Abbfest gets under way on the edge of Abbotskerswell.

The three-day celebration of all that is best in food, drink and local crafts kicks off at 5pm on Friday, September 18.

It coincides with the opening match of the rugby World Cup, with hosts England taking on Fiji at 8pm.

To accommodate the live occasion, Abbfest organisers have rigged up a giant screen at the Fermoy’s venue.

The first night of the event is dedicated to real ale punters.

The first full day of the show on Saturday ropes in all the other distractions, including the food and crafts festival.

Former regional broadcaster Judi Spiers will put in a guest appearance at 11.30am while Sunday’s final day will feature the ever-popular chart-topping Military Wives, a previous hit at the proceedings.

Parking at the ground is free. A regular bus service will also run between Newton Abbot and the arena.
