THE name of a new property development in First Drive, Teignmouth, is causing a mail mix-up for residents.
The 11-apartment luxury development has been renamed Eastcliffe House.
The Victorian villa formerly at the site was historically known as Eastburn. The new name is causing a headache for nearby Dawlish Road resident Shirley Harper, who applied for her property to be called Eastcliffe House more than four years ago.
Mrs Harper uses it as her registered address for her promotional products business.
She claims that important mail has been delivered to the new development while she has received theirs.
'The first I knew of it was when I saw a sign advertising the new development called Eastcliffe House, and it has become a real problem.
'I am waiting for important documents that have yet to arrive and I do not want to be wondering where they have got to.
'I applied to have my address changed for which I paid a fee to Teignbridge Council and I can't understand why they have been allowed to have the same name as me,' she said.
Teignbridge Council checks new names for properties and developments against a database.
Devonshire Homes, developers of Eastcliffe House in First Drive, wished to make no comment.
A Royal mail spokesman said that duplication of house names was not of highest concern. 'We operate with house numbers, postcodes and postal towns for the delivery of our mail.
'In this instance, there is a different postcode and road so there should not be a problem in terms of delivery,' he said.
The local delivery office is aware of the matter.
