A supermarket worker has admitted killing his five week old baby son. Matthew Wickens denied murdering baby Rylee Gardener but admitted the manslaughter of the child when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court and was warned he must expect to go to jail when he is sentenced later. Rylee was found dead in the Winner Street area of Paignton, Devon, on November 25, 2012. He died from a 'serious head injury', said Paul Dunkels, QC, defending Wickens. Prosecutor Simon Laws, QC, said Wickens' plea to unlawful killing was acceptable. Wickens was remanded in custody until he is sentenced. He was charged in July last year after an extensive police investigation into an alleged skull fracture. Wickens has worked at the Newton Abbot branch of Asda for five years.
