FIREFIGHTERS gave ‘suitable advice’ after a crew extinguished a tyre fire on the outskirts of Kingsteignton.

A thick plume of smoke could be seen for miles around as a Newton Abbot crew raced to the scene near Whiteway Barton.

The alarm was raised just after 3pm on Thursday.

A fire spokesman said the person behind the ‘controlled burning’ of the tyres was reminded about his responsibilities in dealing with such waste.

The fire, extinguished by the crew, was in a field.
