KEEN to show that their debut performance in the league was no fluke, the All Whites visited Cleve determined to get their first national league win – and they did not disappoint the faithful who made the trip up the M5 to support them.

It was a good day too for Alex Jeffery, who proved his all round worth with a near-perfect kicking display.

The All Whites had made some positional changes from the match against Chinnor – which ended in a 23-23-draw – and had also rested a couple of players.

Coach Phil Burford was keen to point out that, at this level, strength in depth is vital and managing your resources week to week is important.

The ever-versatile Marc Dibble slipped in at full back, allowing Jeffery to take a bow at scrum half. The 'little pocket battleship' never disappoints, and what he lacks in size he more than makes up for with sheer guts and determination.

The pack had a bit of a rough time, several of the All Whites' forwards being taken out off the ball – a sign of the gamesmanship that can exist at a higher level. However, they stuck to their task and built a platform good enough to achieve a vital away win.

Newton also competed better in the scrummage, which had creaked a bit the previous week.

The All Whites started at a high tempo and maintained it right through. Jeffery took his try well and chipped in with four penalties and two conversions for a personal haul of 21 points.

Marc Dibble and Thor Normann also bagged tries – these coming after good approach work and slick passing from the All Whites' threequarters, well marshalled by the experienced Andy Birkett.

Tom Channon made his debut for the 1st XVm having moved from Torquay Athletic. He came on for Ben Rogers, who continues to grow in stature. Kyle Mason also got a run out in the front row, replacing Lloyd Radford.

Burford gave Toby Borrow his first run out in the centre and he formed a good partnership with Nic Holt.

Alex Moore also got in on the act, coming on for Ben Rudkin, who limped off with a groin strain.

Cleve stay rooted at the bottom of the division, still looking for their first win of the season.

The All Whites return to action tomorrow at Rackerhayes, playing host to Coney Hill, from Gloucestershire, and with a senators' lunch in the clubhouse, the club are hoping for a good sized crowd.
