AN OVERGROWN footpath in Teignmouth has been cleared by a team of volunteers.

The footpath was go thick with stinging nettles and thorns, children and families were unable to access the play park at Third and Fourth Avenue.

Following concerns from families wanting use the park, the volunteers got into action, clearing the pathways to make it safer to use.

And they were helped by professional tree surgeon Joe Cox.

Local county, town and district councillor David Cox, who organised the team and is Joe’s uncle, said: ’It as great to have Joe’s tools and professional advice, so wildlife was not disturbed and we kept to the rules with Japanese knotweed on the site.

‘We managed to cut back nettles and thorns a metre at either side of the pathways, this provides a safe passage for children to walk to the play park.

‘We’ll be back to clean and tidy the play park.’

Joe provided equipment and professorial advice. Volunteers will be back again to clean and tidy the play park.
