Reptiles and bugs will be joining the ponies at the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust Centre for a ‘scales and tails’ event tomorrow, May 27.
The free celebration of all creatures great and small is at the centre at Parke, Bovey Tracey, from 11am to 3pm.
A spokesman for the centre said: ‘After our first event in partnership with Dartmoor Reptiles last December we’re hosting another ‘scales and tails’ experience - a fascinating insight into not only the wonderful and charismatic Dartmoor Ponies, but also the amazing and colourful world of reptiles and bugs.
‘Come and meet Dartmoor Ponies Rolo, Boss, Charlie, Braveheart and of course TV stars George and Smartie, still enjoying the special limelight of leading the Fresh Tracks event at Ten Tors Jubilee Challenge.
‘Andy Stapley and his team from Dartmoor Reptiles will offer visitors the chance to get up close and personal to an incredible array of reptiles and bugs and indeed hold some of these extraordinary creatures, including favourites Rodney the Burmese Python and Kylie the Chilean Rose tarantula.’
Home Farm Café’s mobile catering unit will be in the centre’s car park selling homemade cakes, coffee, tea, cold drinks and ice cream. Profits from the refreshments will go towards helping the ponies.
The spokesman added: ‘All monies go towards the work we do to ensure the long-term future of the Dartmoor pony on Dartmoor, to give the ponies greater value and to deliver innovative educational programmes under the banner ‘ponies inspiring people’.
‘These programmes are making a big difference to young people’s lives across Devon.’
