A LEADING member of the Teignmouth Regeneration Project has said that building a three-storey conference centre on the site of the Den tennis courts is not an option for the future.
There has been a public outcry at the proposals first reported in this newspaper on February 27.
Arts and culture sector leader Roger Stone said that brief headlines on a display board at the regeneration project's public meeting at Teignmouth Community College on February 25 had led to a great deal of misunderstanding.
'Building on the Den was one of several options mentioned, but it would have never got to a vote as the green is too precious,' said Mr Stone. 'I am delighted however to see that the townspeople are showing how passionately they care, and even more pleased to hear that for the first time in 15 years, the entire town is talking about regeneration.
'If this acts as a catalyst to the town, and a reminder of the through road that was imposed upon us, then perhaps some good will come out of this mistake.'
