A LANDLORD is miffed that a tenant evicted from his flat in Newton Abbot has escaped punishment after stealing a fireplace and allegedly trashing the accommodation.

The unmarried mum admitted to police she had taken the £250 fireplace from the apartment near the town centre but she denied wrecking the place, which cost the property's owner £3,000 to put right.

Landlord David O'Neill was hoping the offender would receive a suitable sentence for her crime. But he heard this week that she had escaped with a caution.
