TEIGNMOUTH suffered a night of violence at the weekend.
A mass brawl in the street erupted outside Kools nightclub, Northumberland Place, and two police officers struggled to contain the situation – just days after Teignbridge councillors blocked a police bid to close the premises.
In the latest incident, officers had serious concerns for their own safety and used 'captor' sprays to try to control the crowd, calling in reinforcements from Totnes.
One resident described the violence as 'horrendous' and said he was left in fear.
The fighting among a group of about 15 young men – some who had been in the club – started at about about 2am on Sunday.
Three hours earlier a man suffered serious injuries after an attack on Shaldon Bridge. The two incidents are understood not to be connected.
