A NEWTON Abbot artist is preparing to showcase and sell her work for the first time, with proceeds from any sales being donated to Bowel Cancer UK.
Karen Barrett will exhibit a collection of her artwork at the TAAG (Teignmouth Arts Action Group) Summer Open Exhibition, which runs from 11 July to 24 July 2026 at the community arts centre in Teignmouth.
TAAG supports local and regional artists through exhibitions, workshops and community events, providing a platform for creativity and connection.
While Karen is best known for her writing, including her debut children’s book The Adventurous Panda Bear Visits Asia, she says she has become increasingly passionate about using creativity in all its forms to bring people together, support mental wellbeing and encourage kindness.
Her decision to support Bowel Cancer UK is a personal one, inspired by the experience of her best friend, who has been living with bowel cancer for more than two years.
Karen said her friend’s strength, determination and positivity have continued to inspire her, and she hopes the exhibition will highlight how creativity can provide support, reassurance and a sense of community.
‘For me, this exhibition is about far more than displaying my artwork’, Karen said.
‘It is an opportunity to demonstrate how creativity can bring people together, offer reassurance, promote wellbeing, and encourage acts of kindness’, she added.
The exhibition will offer visitors the chance to view Karen’s artwork while helping raise funds and awareness for a charity close to her heart.
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity.
It is determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer
