A TEIGNMOUTH man who assaulted a woman and damaged her phone has been given a community order.

Callum James Efthimios Papanicolaou, aged 25, of Thornley Drive, changed his plea to guilty of assaulting the woman in Torquay by beating.

He also pleaded guilty to causing £700 of damage to her phone.

He also changed his plea to guilty of stealing the woman’s car keys, house key and passport, to the value of £300.

South and West Devon Magistrates' Court made a community order under which Papanicolaou must take part in a Building Better Relationships Programme for 30 days. There was a drug rehabilitation requirement to have treatment for drug dependency. He must also carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.

He must pay compensation of £517.50 and £350 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £95 to fund victim services.
