SUPPORTERS of a district mobility charity are hoping the public will dig deep into their pockets next month and help blaze a trail of silver through the centre of Newton Abbot.
Newton Abbot Community Transport Association is marking its 25th anniversary throughout 2016 and has plenty of events in the pipeline.
On Wednesday, staff and volunteers will attempt to lay a continuous line of silver coins from Austins in Courtenay Street to a community transport stall in the Passmore Edwards Centre in Bank Street.
The association’s manager Kay Yendall said the task would present a significant challenge with the 150-metre course likely to need thousands of 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p coins.
‘Austins have offered to start us off with a bag of silver coins and we’re hoping that other shops – appreciating the fact that our services bring thousands of people into Newton Abbot to spend their money – will support us too.
‘We’ve started collecting in our reception at the multi-storey car park, but will really need the public’s help as well if we are to achieve an unbroken line all the way’, she said.
‘For those of an age to remember – I don’t want to be the Lone Ranger, I need a few Tontos!
‘So please like us on Facebook and help spread the word.
‘So come on, High Ho Silver and away!’
The association is a transport service run by the people, for the people, on a not-for-profit basis.
They have been providing accessible and affordable transport and services for the local community since 1991.
