The stage was set, the lights were bright, and the magic of Neverland swept through Newton Abbot last week.

Providing the magic were the award-winning youth theatre group NEWTS , the younger arm of Newton Abbot & District Musical Comedy Society , who delivered a spectacular sold-out run of Peter Pan: The Musical Adventure at the town’s historic Alexandra Theatre.

The show, which ran at the venue from May 5 to 8, left audiences spellbound by the young cast’s dazzling performances, with many praising the show’s energy, creativity, and heart. Brimming with enchantment, energy and youthful spirit the production was a celebration of both local talent and the enduring magic of live theatre.

The success is about more than just applause and standing ovations, it’s a powerful reminder of what the community can achieve together. The Alexandra Theatre, once at risk of being ripped out, stood proudly as a beacon of local heritage and creativity, thanks to the dedication and voices of Newton Abbot residents. Their passion helped preserve this beloved venue, ensuring it remains a cinema and artistic hub for generations to come.

“It’s been an absolute joy to watch the young talent of NEWTS shine on stage. Their commitment and enthusiasm have truly blown audiences away.” said director Claire Holden.

As the curtain falls on Peter Pan, the show’s message rings true: “You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!” And perhaps most importantly, "never grow up". The timeless story serves as a reminder to grown-ups everywhere to hold on to the spirit of adventure, joy, and imagination, no matter how old you are.

Newton Abbot has once again proven that it is a town that loves and cherishes the arts and its historic Alexandra Theatre will remain a treasured asset for years to come.
