A £1.5 million project to revitalise a Teignbridge animal sanctuary has been given the go-ahead by district planners.

Now an appeal is to be launched to help turn the dream into a reality.

The decision to grant planning permission means managers at the Animals In Distress centre, Ipplepen, can aim to provide better conditions all round.

On the cards are the demolition of old buildings, the creation of a new reception, improved staff facilities, a clinic, new animal accommodation and much more besides.

The changes will be rolled out in a phased programme as and when the money can be found.

The charity wants to end the piecemeal development at the site which has taken place since its opening in 1994.
