A controversial scheme to build homes on an estuary beauty spot that caused outrage in Shaldon has been rejected.

A planning inspector dismissed two appeals – to construct either up to 25 or four dwellings on land adjacent to St Nicholas Church, Coombe Road, Ringmore.

Residents were up in arms at the proposal by Diana Esland, Jill Connelly and Carol Olsen, held a protest public meeting and organised a petition signed by hundreds.
