THE Dawlish Royal British Legion Club raised more than £500... by pushing a hospital bed.
As part of the club's fundraising efforts, members pushed the bed, with volunteer 'patient' Jeff Leaman on board, from their headquarters in Park Road to the Boathouse Inn, Dawlish Warren.
It took around four hours to complete the task – a time which included a one-hour break at the Boathouse, where food and drink was provided at a discount price for all participants – and £503 was raised thanks to the generosity of people en route.
A harvest festival was held at the club the following day, with the produce being blessed by the Revs Roger Whitehead and Michael Boultbee before being auctioned for a total of £730.
Dawlish mayor Cllr Helen Humphries and her escort Ray Humphries attended the event.
The proceeds from the two days – totalling £1,233 – go into the club functions pot.
