A memorial bench dedicated to 'fun-loving' Debra Rathbone who was killed as she tried to rescue a dog from the railway line was unveiled on Sunday. Friends of Debra came together to remember a woman who was at the centre of events at her local pub, The Ship Inn. They unveiled the bench with an inscription that simply reads: 'This bench is dedicated to Debbie from the people she dedicated her life to'. It looks out over the beautiful Teign Estuary, one of the prime views in south Devon. Debra was at the heart of events organised at the pub. She is remembered for going out of her way to help people. Husband Giles, Debra's daughters, family and friends attended the day that went on into the night with a barbecue and music. The bench was unveiled by Teignbridge MP and family friend Richard Younger-Ross. Mr Rathbone said he is hopeful, after talks with Network Rail, about safety improvements. He met with officials along with Mr Younger Ross on Friday. 'I am happy with the meeting, but of course I will be much happier if what we discussed is implemented,' 'I have done what I set out to do and that is highlight the safety issues with Network Rail and make sure that they sit up and take notice,' he said.
