TWO deserving Dawlish charities benefited from giant cheques from the Co-op Community Fund.
Both Dawlish (Co-op) Funeralcare and the Co-op Food Store in the town are celebrating the difference that they have made in the Dawlish community with their payout celebrations.
Belinda Collins, funeral arranger Dawlish Funeralcare, said: ‘At Co-op, supporting our local communities across the UK is what we do.
‘Over the last year Co-op members, when they bought selected Co-op branded products and services in Dawlish, have helped to raise money for both Dawlish Museum and Dawlish Community Transport.’
Jenny Gibson and Andrew Wright (both seated) from Dawlish Museum received a giant cheque for £3,856 from Catherine Bate, funeral director at Dawlish Funeralcare.
Andrew and Jenny said: ‘We are so grateful to receive this fantastic amount from the Co-op Community Fund.
‘As agreed this will help us to update the photographic history of Dawlish, covering some 100 years, that will be enjoyed by both residents and visitors as well as providing a useful educational resource.’
Belinda Collins presented a cheque for £4,258 to Paul Cooper, lead driver at Dawlish Community Transport from the the Co-op Community Fund.
Sally Preston from Dawlish Community Transport said: ‘Astounding contributions have been received from so many, in support of our efforts to raise funds for replacement vehicles; Co-op being one.
‘As a small charity now striving to move through the impacts of the pandemic, we were overwhelmed to receive this amazing sum of money to put in the pot.
‘The charity was nearing a problematic position, unable to raise enough money to replace older vehicles, being one of Co-op’s nominated charities has been invaluable.
‘Thank you to all those who chose us as their allocated charity, to reach this point is incredible.’
