TODAY marks the 70th anniversary of the D Day Landings and this week HGV driving instructor Steve Robertson travelled to all five Normandy Beaches.

But 59-year-old Mr Robertson, from Heathfield, was not driving a lorry: he was completing the 200 mile round trip from Cherbourg on a mode of transport at the other end of the scale – a bicycle. Not only that but with his rations and camping gear the bicycle weighed more than 100lbs.

There is a serious side to his marathon efforts – he is raising money from sponsorship for the Newton Abbot Royal British Legion.
