Motorcyclist Daniel Mark Holdsworth, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda motorcycle was in collision with a van at 7.20pm on Friday.
The van driver, a 50-year-old local man, was unhurt in the incident, which happened at the top of the A38 southbound slip road at Chudleigh Station junction.
A police spokesman said: 'We are appealing for witnesses who saw a Honda motorcycle travelling on the A38 and leaving at the Chudleigh station junction, or anyone who saw the collision occur.'
Both slip roads at the overbridge were closed for six hours, causing long tailbacks.
An inquest will be opened and adjourned o the biker.
two hours earlier, a Ford Focus travelling on the Exeter-bound carriageway struck the central reservation near the same junction. It ricocheted onto the other side of the road, struck a road sign and went down a 15m embankment. Three fire crews from Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot attended the incident.
Crews from Newton Abbot had to take out the glass and remove the roof to free the driver. A rapid response vehicle, ambulance and GP were sent to the scene and the driver, suffering spinal injuries, was taken to the RD&E.
Minutes later, a second vehicle, travelling in the opposite direction hit the central reservation, which had been knocked from its proper position in the first collision.
The driver of a silver Mini Cooper, from Staffordshire, and passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The road had to be closed on both sides while crews worked to free the trapped motorist and recover both cars.
