TWO motorcyclists, one from Ogwell and the other from Loddiswell, suffered fatal injuries when their machines collided almost head-on on the A39 between Blackmoor Gate and Parracombe, north Devon.

One of them, 58-year-old Nigel Cyril Martin, of Webber Close, Ogwell, was riding his Yamaha 998cc bike towards Blackmoor Gate, and the other, 74-year-old Edwin Anthony Brandon, was on his Suzuki 999cc machine travelling with a group in the opposite direction.

Resumed inquests at Devon County Hall, Exeter, on Tuesday, heard that the collision was on a bend as it appeared Mr Brandon either pulled out or was overtaking a car and went slightly across the centre of the road. The Yamaha was close to the centre line.

It was on Sunday, May 23, last year, that Devon Advanced Motorcycle Group members, which meet for outings every fortnight, set off from Sainsbury's, Newton Abbot, for Lynton. Among them was Mr Brandon.

In a statement, Spencer Jensen said that the weather was hot and sunny and the roads were dry.
