Police have launched a series of investigations after attacks on election billboards across the district were said to have got 'out of hand'.
Hundreds of signs have been vandalised, others stolen and private property damaged.
The cost is being measured in thousands of pounds.
The Liberal Democrats appear to be the main victims although the Conservatives, too, have suffered.
Other parties have not reported any significant problems but have condemned the action.
