TRAFFIC mayhem hit Newton Abbot town centre this morning (fri) after a disabled driver’s car blocked other vehicles trying to move through Union Street and Courtenay Street.
Trapped motorists alerted police who made efforts to trace the offending driver as a giant truck tried to inch past the badly parked Ford Mondeo.
Trouble started at 10.25am when the HGV could not manoeuvre round the Mondeo, an obstruction which brought the rest of traffic around the area to a standstill.
The lorry driver was eventually able to gingerly creep past the car before the motorists could be traced.
A police spokesman said as many as 30 vehicles were jammed as a result of the obstruction.
She revealed that the Mondeo driver had subsequently been spoken to by officers about the wisdom of parking sensibly.
Similar blue badge chaos hit the same area last year when the town was gridlocked for an hour-and-a-half by a lorry which could not pass a stupidly parked vehicle.
