A FORMER Teignbridge man was among a group of have-a-go heroes who went to the aid of a policewoman under attack by a crazed knifeman in Canada.

Now Robert Caunter, 43, has been officially commended, along with one of the others.

The citation states that a Victoria police officer, constable Lane Douglas Hunt, went to a convenience store to investigate a complaint of theft and threats.

She held the door open for a man who was entering the shop, when, without warning, he pulled out a knife and attacked her. She grabbed him without hesitation and began defending herself.
