BEACH hut owners in Teignmouth could put the brakes on the town’s Bonfire Night firework display.
The November 1 Teignmouth and Shaldon display at Point Beach could be in jeopardy.
For safety reasons owners of huts which are situated inside the Safety Exclusion Zone have been asked to confirm they won’t be on site.
Letters have been sent to all 14 hut occupants from Teignmouth Town Council but so far, most have not responded.
They were given a deadline of October 10.
They were required to complete a short form and confirm that no one would be using the huts at the allotted time.
The company due to conduct the display has set a Safety Exclusion Zone, which includes the beach huts, which must be observed or they will not proceed with the event.
Anyone with a beach hut within the Safety Exclusion Zone, is asked to make contact with Teignmouth Town Council before Friday October 31..
Mayor Cllr Cate Williams said: ‘The display is hugely popular with families across the district thanks to its spectacular setting on Point Beach.
‘But safety must come first and although a physical search of the area will be conducted on the night, we really need written confirmation that owners agree to stay away.
‘Without that we can’t say hand on heart that everything has been done as it should be.
‘What a pity it would be if an event that attracts thousands of people had to be abandoned because of the actions of just a handful.
‘So please hut owners, respond immediately and let the fireworks display go ahead.’
