BOVEY Tracey Town Council is appealing for information after a spate of vandalism saw play equipment, trees and a newly installed bike maintenance point damaged.

The incidents, which are believed to have happened on Wednesday and Thursday (October 28 and 29), targeted two public spaces in the town.

At Mill Marsh Park, a window from the play castle was removed and smashed. Nearby, one tree was snapped and another was uprooted and thrown away.

Meanwhile, a £1,200 bike maintenance point in Station Road car park was also attacked, probably on the Wednesday evening. The facility was installed just four months ago.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, the town council urged anyone with information about those responsible to come forward and contact either the council or Devon & Cornwall Police.

The council said: ‘Bovey Tracey and Heathfield is a beautiful and safe place in which to live, so it is very said that these events have occurred.

‘We know the vast majority of residents are better than this and their community facilities deserve respect’.

The damage has prompted anger and disappointment among local residents, with several taking to social media to express their frustration.

One resident suggested CCTV footage might help identify those responsible, pointing out that some nearby properties may have security cameras, with another suggesting the council install its own cameras if the vandalism continues.

Another said the incidents were sad and showed a lack of respect for the community, particularly given the effort that goes into improving the town.

Bovey Tracey Town Council has urged residents to avoid publicly naming or accusing individuals, reminding people that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact Bovey Tracey Town Council or Devon and Cornwall Police.
