A DOUBLE DECKER bus was speared by a large tree branch in Newton Abbot’s Aller Brake Road last night.

No passengers were injured in the incident involving Stagecoach’s 66 service, which was part of traffic rerouted from the Aller roundabout.

Police and firefighters dealt with the incident just after 7pm when a large chunk of tree smashed through the front side of the vehicle’s top deck.

Firefighters used lifting gear and ladders to access the branch and remove it.

Highways staff were called to chop up the branch.

Residents have expressed concerns about the heavy traffic using the residential road while engineers carry out maintenance work between Aller roundabout and the Romany Jones junction.

Stagecoach confirmed that no-one was hurt. An inquiry has been launched.
