SEAN 'Chipper' Howard topped the scoring for Turkeys despite playing with a broken arm.

In his debut season in the Newton Abbot and District Skittles League, the 13-year-old sports-mad youngster had third and sixth end 15 spares in his 59 as Turkeys visit to the Newton Abbot Constitutional Club ended on a high note with a 386-355 Division Three win over Pedlars.

Sean, who is already making a name for himself on the bowling greens for Newton Abbot Bowling Club, suffered the injury while playing football for WBB U14s.

For Pedlars, who were a dozen pins in front with two rubbers to play, skipper Steve Hall hit 54.

Highest individual scorer of the week was Barbarians captain and anchor Gary Caunter who rattled up five spares, which included a nine, in his 77 (16, 14, 15, 9, 8, 15), as his side beat Bottlewashers 404-387 in the Premier Division, on Kingsteignton Royal British Legion one.

Garry Ward and Mike Smith were on song for the visitors with 58 apiece.

Still with the Premier, King Pins picked up their first win of the season with the highest team score of the week – 439. On the receiving end on Forde Hall two were Kestrels who returned 403.

On the front end for King Pins was Steve White with 70 (17, 9, 7, 18, 7, 12) though that was overshadowed by Kestrels' Ken Martin with 74 (13, 16, 13, 15, 8, 9).

In Division One, Newton Rangers opener Roger Barnes was firing on all cylinders with 71 (7, 14, 8, 17, 16, 9) and team-mate Chris Thomas had a penultimate end 20 double-flopper as they saw off a man-short Dee Gees 408-346 on Kingsteignton RBL two.

Edwin Maddick's four-spare 68 was best for Dee Gees.
