FIRE crews were called to a large blaze involving a derelict building in Chudleigh late last night, with firefighters confirming the structure was completely destroyed.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service’s Fire Control received multiple reports of a building fire shortly before 11pm on Tuesday, June 2 and immediately mobilised crews from Bovey Tracey, Ashburton and Middlemoor.

The B3344 was blocked from Rock Road to the A38 turn off until around 2am on Wednesday, June 3.

On arrival, firefighters found a building measuring approximately 10 metres by 20 metres ‘well alight’, believed to have been a barn or shed.

Crews worked in breathing apparatus and deployed multiple jets to tackle the flames, including hose reel jets and 70mm and 51mm attack lines.

Despite the swift response, the building suffered 100 per cent fire damage, the fire service have confirmed.

Fire officials believe the cause of the blaze to be deliberate, although investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
